Do you teach that the act of swallowing alchohol is a sin? The IPHC for its over one hundred year history has held that it's members should abstain from drinking alchoholic beverages. The reason is because of the abuse of this substance in so much of the American experience. The church recognizes that drunkedness is the primary point of the Bible regarding alchohol. But we believe that total abstinance is the best witness we can provide to our culture. We recognize there is not a specific point of Scripture for this position and so we hold this position from the standpoint of how we believe we can best witness to our society. We do not believe that it is wrong to take recognized medicines under the care of physian that may have an alchohol base. Doug Beacham, Executive Director |
