What is your stance on tithing? IPHC believes that tithing remains a responsibility for every Christian. In the New Testament Jesus did not negate the tithing principle established in the OT. In Luke 11:42, Jesus tells the Pharisees that they should be faithful in matters of justice as well as in tithing. Nowhere does the NT treat tithing as if it is no longer a divine command. With that said, you are correct that Christians should tithe not out of obligation but from love for the Lord. IPHC does require its churches, including affiliates, to tithe to the local conference. That 10% goes to the conference and is divided among the ministries of the conference as well as the denominational national and international ministries. It is the responsibility of the local conference to encourage the local congregations to be faithful in this matter. Doug Beacham |
